The E. Urner Goodman
Billy W. Walley, Chairman of the Recognitions Subcommittee, of the National Committee
of the Order of the Arrow is pleased to announce the selection of three recipients of the
E. Urner Goodman Scholarship for 2000
. The purpose of the E. Urner Goodman Scholarship fund program
is to assist Arrowmen preparing for a professional Scouting career by helping to fulfill
the financial obligations of their college education.
E. Urner Goodman, founder of the Order of the Arrow, was a teacher before entering the
professional service of the Boy Scouts of America in 1915. This program was established as
a meaningful living memorial to the founder of the Order of the Arrow by helping provide
needed financial resources that will perpetuate continued high-caliber, service-minded
individuals dedicated to professional Scouting Service.
The National Committee has agreed to fund $5,000 in scholarships, and the recipients
and the amount they will receive include:
Mr. Mark F. Hogan will received the sum of $2,000. He is registered
with the Old Colony Council, Canton, Massachusetts - Tisquantum Lodge. He is a Junior at
Currey College, Milton, Massachusetts, majoring in Communication. He is an Eagle Scout and
has served as Lodge Secretary, and as Lodge Chief and is presently serving as a third term
Mr. Andrew V. Zahn will receive the sum of $1,500. He is registered
with the Hawkeye Area Council, Cedar Rapids, Iowa - Cho-Gun-Mun-A-Nock Lodge. He is a
sophomore at the University of Northern Iowa, majoring in Public Relations. He is an Eagle
Scout and is presently serving as Section Chief.
Mr. Brock C. Ostrander will receive the sum of $1,500. He is
registered with the Great Southwest Council, Albuquerque, New Mexico - Yah-Tah-Hey-Si-Kess
Lodge. He is a sophomore at Eastern New Mexico University, majoring in Human Resource
Management. He is an Eagle Scout and is presently serving as Section Chief.
The National Committee congratulates these fine young representatives of the Boy Scouts
of America and the Order of the Arrow.
