The Brotherhood of Cheerful Service The Brotherhood of Cheerful Service: A History of the Order of the Arrow  is now available in its Third Edition. This book is an enlightening history of the Order of the Arrow. Since its initial printing, it has been nationally recognized as the authoritative source for Order of the Arrow historical facts. 

Written by Kenneth P. Davis Ph.D., a member of the National Order of the Arrow Committee, this publication consists of twelve chapters that each focus on a specific phase of Order of the Arrow history, or an aspect of its operations. 

The book is presented in a 8.5" x 11" format, and includes 18 appendices, each of which contain nationally relevant historical records. In writing this book, the author has successfully crystallized historical information about the Order, and has perpetuated it for future generations to enjoy.

A Thing of the Spirit E. Urner Goodman, the founder of the Order of the Arrow; was a trend setting Scouter in the the early days of the movement. However, there is a lot that many of us do not know about the man who founded the Brotherhood of Cheerful Service.

With a foreword by Edward A. Pease, the former National Order of the Arrow Committee Chairman, this book is an excellent source of information on the life of Dr. Goodman, and preserves oral history about Dr. Goodman that might have otherwise been lost.

In the book Dr. Goodman's life is described in seven chapters that encompass his life from his birth, travels through his early days as a Scoutmaster, details on his days founding the Order of the Arrow, chronicles his life as a professional Scouter, and closes in a description of his career. The book is a 5"x 8" format for easier reading. Each chapter of the book is thoroughly researched and provides many small, but interesting facts on the founder.
