In Memory of R.D. Dunkin

R.D. Duncan

Eagle Scout R.D. Dunkin was born in Ames, Iowa on January 6, 1949 and passed away Friday morning Dec, 29, 2006 doing what he loved, working with the Order of the Arrow, at the National Planning Meeting in Dallas, Texas.

R.D. was a beloved son, brother, uncle, Mason and Scouter. He was a recipient of the Founders Award, Distinguished Service Award, Silver Antelope Award, Silver Beaver Award and District Award of Merit. R.D. served as the Vice President of Illowa Council in Davenport, IA where he once was a Wood Badge course director and Lodge Adviser for Konepaka Ketiwa Lodge. In 1961, R.D. was inducted into the Order of the Arrow with Mitigwa Lodge and later became a loved brother of Konepaka Ketiwa. It was his love for the Order of the Arrow and its admonition that he served for 15 years as the Central Region Chairman of the Order of the Arrow where he touched thousands of lives. He also served on the National Committee, was the Lead Adviser for the OA Service Corps at the National Jamboree, and Activities and Recreation Committee at NOAC. He staffed countless NLATS and NLS training courses where he always grabbed the groups attention during his Riddle of Man session, which has to do with the meaning of his vigil name: One Who Gets Attention. Surviving R.D. is his mother Virginia, brother Murray and sister Carol.

Visitation will be Friday, January 5, 2007 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with Masonic Services, January 5, 2007 7:30 PM at the Runge Mortuary & Crematory 838 E. Kimberly Davenport, Iowa Phone:  (563) 391-6202.
