The Manti-La Sal National forest initiative will occur from June 14-21, 2008 in the middle of the 1.5 million acre heartland of Utah and is part of the remnant Wasatch Plateau. The Forest is divided into three land areas: the Manti Division, the La Sal Division at Moab, and the La Sal Division at Monticello. Our role as conversationalists will involve removing small shrub and trees which grow in dense thickets called tamarisk. Eliminating these tamarisks from the forest will involve a process of pruning tree limbs, scattering them across the forest floor, and spraying herbicides on the stumps so that they do not grow back.Arrowmen will be divided into five separate divisions, and crews of 60-100 individuals, in order to accomplish their task. Additionally though, this unique experience will be supplemented with a number of recreational activities including white-water rafting, canoeing, fishing and even repelling. The program at Manti-La Sal National forest will afford Arrowmen a unique environment to form lasting friendships with their brothers while at the same time meaningfully contributing to a worthy environmental cause.
