2010 Northeast Region Chief Interview

2010 Norhteast Region Chief

2010 Northeast Region Chief, Brian Ahrens

How do you feel to be a national officer? What is most exciting about the role?

I am thrilled for the opportunity to serve the Northeast Region, and I am particularly excited to have a big role in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.

What are you most looking forward to?

I am looking forward to traveling around the region and the country this year and meeting some great Arrowmen. I hope that I can be an example and serve them in the best way I know how.

What are your earliest memories of the OA?

My earliest memories in the OA revolve around my initial reluctance to go to the LEC meeting after my Ordeal.  I had a sash and dash attitude, but with some stern insistence from my mother, I got involved and have never looked back!

What was your first leadership position and what was the greatest lesson learned from it?

My first leadership position in the Order was Elangomat, and through that job I learned the importance of setting the example.  Leading candidates through an Ordeal is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

What is the coolest thing you have done in Scouting?

My experience as Senior Patrol Leader of my Troop for the World Jamboree in the UK was one I will never forget.  It was incredible to meet and befriend members of the Scouting movement worldwide.

What makes you proudest to be an Arrowmen?

Our strong tradition of servant leadership – I cannot think of any other organization with such a selfless purpose.  Where else would people pay money to sweat it out in the woods for a week, like we saw at ArrowCorps5?

What are some awesome things you have done in the OA?

OA Wilderness Voyage, planning and attending a Section Conclave in Puerto Rico ArrowCorps5, serving as a Conference Vice Chief at NOAC.

What makes the OA so cool?

The coolest thing about the OA is that there's a spot for everyone. Whether you like High Adventure, teaching, computers, American Indian traditions, etc. anyone can find their niche.

Other insights and notes?

I intend to make the best of my time as Region Chief, and I look forward to giving back to the organization that has helped me grow into the person I am today.
