Service to America Frequently Asked Questions 1. Are the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Explorers all involved in the service commitment? Yes. The Order of the Arrow, however, is promoting the service commitment to Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Varsity Scout team members. Explorers are expected to develop service projects in their annual plan for each post. Service is an important element in all of the Boy Scout programs. 2. Will local councils recognize participating units? Councils are encouraged to develop their own recognition plans for units and individual youths. 3. Are there any other marketing methods for this program? Articles about the Presidents' summit will appear in Boys' Life and Scouting magazines. The Order of the Arrow's National Bulletin will also detail our plan of promotion. Additionally, there may be news releases in local council newsletters and community newspapers. 4. What kind of service projects meet the needs of the commitment? Community service projects should have a definition and a purpose, be real to the Scouts, become a significant action, and be compatible with the aims and objectives of the Scouting movement. 5. Why is the Order of the Arrow promoting the summit? As Scouting's national brotherhood of honored campers, we were approached by the Boy Scouts of America to devise a plan to promote and record service hours. Service to others is one of the hallmarks of the Order, and we are proud to accept the challenge of the BSA. Please contact your local OA lodge if you have any further questions.
