Service to America Project Goals One of the fundamental goals of the Presidents' Summit for America's Future is "to provide youth with the opportunity to give back through community service." The Boy Scouts of America was founded on principles of civic service activities. Community service projects foster the spirit of citizenship through service to others. The BSA and each local council commits each of our youth to serve a minimum of 12 hours of community service annually, for a total of 200 million community service hours through the year 2000. The Order of the Arrow, through each of its local lodges, has agreed to give leadership to each local council's commitment to meet community service goals through a plan to promote community service to Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops and Varsity Scout teams.
